Mine Cutting and Channeling Machine Operators
Operate machinery such as longwall shears, plows, and cutting machines to cut or channel along the face or seams of coal mines, stone quarries, or other mining surfaces to facilitate blasting, separating, or removing minerals or materials from mines or from the Earth's surface. Includes shale planers.
- Employment is projected to decline in all sectors except coal mining.
- While many mining jobs can be entered directly from high school, a considerable amount of job training and experience is needed before workers can perform most duties; some employers prefer graduates of high school or postsecondary programs in mining or mine technology.
